The point of having a home gym is that you can do all of your lifts, pulls, and other movements from the comfort of your home. As such, you want to make sure that the system lets you do as many exercises as possible without limiting you.
We’ll be honest, there’s a huge difference between the two here. When it comes to Bowflex PR1000 vs Bowflex Xceed, Xceed gives you nearly triple the number of exercises.
You get 25 exercises with PR1000 and 65 with Xceed. It allows you to do more back, chest, and leg workouts, making it the best home gym for whole body fitness.
However, before we move to the next section, there is one important thing we should cover: aerobic rowing. Many people love rowing because it gets the blood moving and works up a sweat.
Rowing is only available with PR1000 as the seat slides back and forth. This isn’t available with Xceed.
So it comes down to how important rowing is to you. If it’s rarely in your fitness regimen, then Xceed wins by a long shot. If you can’t go without rowing, then PR1000 might be right for you despite offering fewer exercises.
Our muscles only go through resistance training. No one wants a home gym that doesn’t offer enough resistance. You’d be wasting your time lifting light weights and getting nowhere with your fitness.
Both of these have a similar default resistance level, but one of them offers upgradable resistance bars.
When it comes to Bowflex Xceed vs Boxflex PR1000, they both come with 210lbs of resistance. If you’re new to working out, then this is more than enough to match your needs. However, if you’re looking to really build your muscles, then you’ll need to upgrade.
Only Xceed offers upgradable bars. You can upgrade to 310lbs and then 410lbs. You don’t get this with PR1000. It stays at that default 210lbs.
If you plan on using this gym frequently (and that’s likely why you chose it, right?), then upgradable resistance bars are worth it. At the same time, having a total resistance of 210lbs is good enough for many people, so consider your strength goals as well before choosing one or the other.
Ease of Use
Some home gyms are surprisingly hard to use. Maybe they don’t come with enough accessories, or they’re difficult to build, or you’re fighting more with the machine than using it to improve your fitness. Bowflex is a great brand, but how good are their home gyms?
While assembly is required, it’s fairly easy to put the gyms together. They also come with a variety of straps and bars so you can do bicep curls, bench press, shoulder press, and much more. Both also allow you to do leg extensions and curls.
Only Xceed comes with a squat bar. This is used for squats (of course!) along with several other exercises. You don’t get a bar with PR1000 unfortunately.
The bench press style is also different with these. PR1000 offers a more traditional horizontal bench press position while Xceed lets you do vertical bench presses. This is a matter of preference, but both are able to build your chest muscles.
In general, we would say that while both are easy to use, Xceed comes with more options overall and allows you to do more.
Bowflex Xceed vs PR1000: Storage
There is a massive difference between the two here, and it actually works in PR1000’s favor this time.
Many people set aside a specific room or section for their home gym and place the Bowflex gym in that area. It’s meant to live there and there’s no need to move it. Others either don’t have the space for that or would prefer to use the room for something else once they’re done working out. In that case, a folding home gym would be much better.
PR1000 can be folded so that it easily stores in closets, under the bed, and other convenient areas. Is the Bowflex PR1000 worth it? This feature alone might make you say yes, especially if space is at a premium.
The same cannot be said for Xceed though. It doesn’t fold. While the gym isn’t huge, it’s meant to be permanently placed somewhere. This is fine for many people, but consider your situation before making this decision.
Bowflex PR1000 vs Xceed: Accessories
Both of these come with cables so you can easily connect the right amount of resistance, and they have straps for your hands and feet. However, only Xceed comes with a squat bar. You don’t get a bar with PR1000. While you could always buy one, that’s an extra purchase and no one wants to spend more money if they don’t need to.
While there isn’t a huge difference here, Xceed is the better of the two since it gives you more.
